Doc Rivers Named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for November As basketball fans have learned from the trials and tribulations in South Beach, leading a team of all stars isn’t easy, but Doc Rivers has established a “team first” mentality in Boston, and his leadership has earned him league-wide recognition.

The NBA named Rivers the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month on Wednesday, while San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich earned the Western Conference honors.

Under Rivers guidance, the Celtics tie with the Orlando Magic to post the best record (13-4) in the Eastern Conference this season, while recording an 11-3 record in November. The Celtics hold a perfect 7-0 record against Eastern Conference teams at home and post an 7-1 overall record at The Garden.

The Celtics are currently the only team in the NBA shooting 50 percent or better from the field, and also lead the league in assists per game (26.5).

Other Eastern Conference nominees for Coach of the Month were New York’s Mike D’Antoni, and Orlando’s Stan Van Gundy.
