Derek Jeter and the Yankees were miles apart in offseason negotiations in early November, but according to the latest reports, both sides are inching closer to reaching an agreement.

According to the New York Daily News, Jeter's agent, Casey Close, flew to Tampa to meet with general manager Brian Cashman to discuss terms.

It's believed that the two sides had not spoken since early November when the Yankees offered the captain a three-year, $45 million offer, which was far off from Jeter's reported wish of a four- or five-year deal worth up to $24 million per season. The Yanks appear to be giving in and are willing to offer a few million more per season, plus an option year, according to Fox Sports.

Despite the seemingly "messy" negotiation talks thus far, it remains very unlikely that the two sides will fail to agree on terms this winter.

"[Jeter leaving the Yankees] would be one of the biggest shocks I've ever seen in sports," one GM told Fox Sports.
