Pizza Eaters Reveal Todd Haley Stripped Charlie Weis of Play-Calling Duties During Ravens Game

Prior to Sunday’s Chiefs-Ravens playoff matchup, speculation had loomed that Charlie Weis‘s hiring at Florida would distract him from preparing for his duties in Kansas City.

The 30-7 scoreline, with the Chiefs’ only points coming on a Jamaal Charles 41-yarder, was a strong argument for such, but that’s just the beginning of the controversy.

Jason Whitlock had noted during the game that when the Chiefs ran a sweep on fourth-and-1, it seemed like head coach Todd Haley‘s doing, not Weis’. “Todd Haley, ladies and gentlemen. He just put his stamp on the game with 4th-down call.  And trust me, that was all Haley,” he tweeted.

He was right, potentially.

According to ProFootballTalk, Haley stripped Weis of his play-calling duties at some point after the first half.

The source of the story, however, is quite dubious.

The tip to ProFootballTalk came from 610 Sports in Kansas City, but what was 610’s source?

Apparently, two patrons of an unnamed pizza shop that Weis is known to frequent overheard the former Notre Dame head coach openly talking about having his play-calling duties relinquished at halftime.

So if you believe that pizza eaters in Kansas City are honest, you’ll believe that Haley took over for Weis at the half.

The implications of such are relatively great as far as the pursuit of a replacement offensive coordinator is concerned. A big-name coordinator likely would be hesitant to take the job, knowing that Haley could step in at any moment.

With Josh McDaniels linked to joining his former New England compatriots in Kansas City, that may prove to be quite relevant.
