Despite earlier reports that Liverpool had agreed upon a £35 million($56.1 million) transfer fee for striker Andy Carroll, the bid has been rejected, according to Sky Sports.

"Newcastle have broken their silence on the Andy Carroll saga — and have said a second bid from Liverpool has been rejected," reported Sky Sports. "We've put the Andy Carroll market back out after Liverpool's second bid is rejected and offer 2/1 on him being a Newcastle player tomorrow."

Earlier on Monday, an agreement seemed to have been reached after an initial offer of £30 million ($47.7 million) was rejected. The increased offer of £35 million was expected to have sealed the deal, but that no longer appears to be the case.
