Brigham Young University's athletic department created quite a controversy on Tuesday, stating that starting center Brandon Davies "will not represent the university on the men's basketball team throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 season."

Four days later, the Cougars clinched the Mountain West Conference regular-season crown with a 102-78 victory over the University of Wyoming, while Davies watched from the bench.

Even though BYU won’t allow Davies to represent the team, coach Dave Rose allowed the sophomore to partake in the team’s celebratory cutting-of-the-net after the win.

The crowd supported this decision as they chanted, "Davies! Davies!"

Senior Jackson Emery felt similarly.

"It was great to have Brandon on the sidelines with us, to enjoy this moment because he deserves it as much as anyone on this team," he said. "To have him cut down that net, that was a special moment."

Davies led the Cougars in rebounds and shots, and was third on the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game.
