Former Red Sox Outfielder Carl Everett Arrested, Charged With Assault With Deadly Weapon, Tampering With Witness

Carl Everett may not believe in dinosaurs, but he’s learning to believe in the harsh realities of the criminal justice system.

The former MLB outfielder was arrested Monday night and is being held in a Tampa, Fla., jail without bail for allegedly assaulting someone with a deadly weapon and tampering with a witness, according to The Associated Press. No other details on the arrest have been released.

Everett, 39, was always a rather interesting figure during his playing days, which spanned from 1993-2006, a period in which he played for eight different franchises. He was known for his hot temper, which often got him ejected from games, and his infamous head-butting incident with umpire Ron Kulpa. He’s also remembered for giving longtime Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy a not-so-polite nickname, and, as previously mentioned, for denying the existence of dinosaurs.

“God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve,” Everett said in a 2000 Sports Illustrated article. “The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can’t say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Someone actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus Rex.”

If the charges stick, Everett may have some time spent in solitude that he can spend penning his memoirs.
