Ian Poulter Says Tiger Woods Won’t Finish in Top Five at Masters, Then Blasts Media on Twitter

Ian Poulter is not happy with how his latest opinionated comments on Tiger Woods have been perceived. Naturally, he's blaming the media.

The English golfer said that Woods may struggle at this week's Masters and apparently, Poulter is taking some heat for doing so.

"I don't think he'll finish in the top five," Poulter said according to The Guardian. "The shots he was hitting at Doral were very inconsistent. You can't afford to hit shots like that [at Augusta] and get away with it. I don't think you want to rely on your short game that much around this place."

Poulter seemed to give Woods a glimmer of hope when he said that "you can never rule him out." However, Poulter quickly added that that's something he doesn't foresee happening this week at Augusta.

"When he gets in position where he's close, he generally holes putts at the right time. He hasn't done it for a while but I think if he starts to hole the putts at the right time then you will see the Tiger of old come out and that's dangerous. But I don't see it this week."

Poulter, as he often does, went to Twitter not long after the story came out, and he was apparently not happy with the reaction to his comments and how they were perceived.

"I was asked last year if tiger would finish top 5 I said yes," he tweeted. "I was asked this year I said I don't think so. Now I'm an ass, [quality] press."

He wasn't done.

"You can't win with the press, you answer a question honestly, now I'm the one who looks a prick. The press can do that to you. Thanks boys"

He still wasn't done.

"Note to self when asked about Tiger always bull [expletive] [and] say what they want to hear, or you will be ridiculed. Noted to not answering anymore."

The two have a bit of history, too. Poulter has needled Woods some over Twitter in the past, but has always claimed that it was all in good fun. Poulter made news in December he recounted on Twitter how he referred to Woods as "No. 2" after Woods lost the world's No. 1 ranking.

When asked about Poulter's latest comments, however, Woods didn't necessarily shy away.

"Well, Poulter is always right, isn't he?" he said. "My whole idea is to win the golf tournament. I've prepared with a view to peaking four times a year and that hasn't changed."
