According to Baseball-Reference.com, Manny Ramirez earned more than $200 million during his playing career. It looks like he can add another $8 million to that total.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have struggled financially throughout this season, are to pay Ramirez the deferred money owed to him even after the team traded him to the Chicago White Sox last summer. Ramirez originally signed a $42 million contract prior to the 2009 season, and ESPN.com says the Dodgers still owe him $8.33 million for 2012 and $8.33 million for 2013.

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is currently in a legal battle with ex-wife Jamie McCourt regarding, among other things, ownership of the Dodgers. In April, MLB commissioner Bud Selig appointed a representative to oversee the team’s day-to-day operations because of “deep concerns for the finances.”

Recently, it was revealed that Frank McCourt would be able to meet the June 1 payroll obligations. It is not clear, though, if Ramirez’s money was taken into account.

Ramirez led the Boston Red Sox to two championships, winning the World Series MVP in 2004 and contributing to the 2007 championship squad. Ramirez played parts of 19 seasons with the Dodgers, Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays. He retired earlier this season upon failing his second drug test.
