Ratings for Bruins-Canucks Game 1 Beats Last Year's Celtics-Lakers Finals The age-old argument in Boston is what sport reigns supreme. Is it a football town officially, or are the Red Sox No. 1? It wasn't all that long ago that Boston was a hockey town, too.

Well, if the ratings for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final are any indication, it may still be.

Game 1 between the Bruins and Canucks got a 25.5/39 rating in the Boston market, topping Game 1 of the NBA Finals last year between the Celtics and Lakers, which got a 19.1/34.

The numbers mean that, essentially, one in every four televisions in Boston was tuned to the game, while 39 percent of televisions that were in use were tuned to the game (What were the other 61 percent watching?). There's no official number on this, but it's probably safe to assume that roughly 100 percent of Boston viewers were disappointed with the outcome.

Nationally, the game drew a 3.2 overnight rating and 6 share, the highest ratings for a Stanley Cup Final Game 1 since 1999, which featured the Stars and the Sabres.
