Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll Provide Consistency Up Top That Liverpool Needs to Be Successful

There has been plenty of discussion surrounding the abundance of midfielders that Liverpool has accumulated. And although the blogosphere hasn't gone into overdrive when dissecting the Reds backline, plenty of conversation is still popping up about that pesky left-back position.

However, there hasn't been much mention of Liverpool's attacking line during this all-bark-but-little-bite transfer period — and rightfully so.

Quite frankly, Liverpool spent enough time dramatizing over scoring goals when Fernando Torres was slumping through Anfield. After solving that conundrum in January, the Reds now have a formidable duo of strikers that could remind Reds fans of the good ol' days of Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush.

Perhaps that's why King Kenny -– now roaming the sidelines in his second stint as 'Pool manager –- traded El Nino for El Duo of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Starting with Carroll, the classic No. 9 is exactly what most teams would dream to have toward goal. Although he still shows his youth (he's 22) both on and off the field, Carroll's strength and aerial ability give the Reds an added dimension that they never could have had with Torres.

Arriving at Anfield with a hefty price tag (over $56 million, the most ever for an English footballer) and an injured hamstring, Carroll made his Liverpool appearance March 6 against Manchester United in a 3-1 Reds win and proceeded to gain scoring opportunities in his first six games, finally breaking through twice in a 3-0 win against Manchester City.

The yin to Carroll's yang, Suarez has truly flourished since his transfer from Dutch club Ajax. Suarez burst onto the scene was unceremonious, as he was introduced to the planet during the World Cup with the new "Hand of God," yet the Uruguayan international has done plenty to eliminate the idea that he’s anything but a world-class soccer player.

After scoring in his first appearance in red, Suarez added three more goals and three assists, including this dazzling effort against the Red Devils.

Suarez hasn't stopped there, as he's continued to showcase his talents during the Copa America, leading Uruguay with two goals in the semifinal to move them to the championship. When young yet unproven stars such as Brazil's Ganso and Neymar, Chile's Alexis Sanchez and Argentina's Javier Pastore are getting flowered with transfer offers exceeding $70 million, the 24-year-old Suarez looks like quite the steal at $36 million.

The footwork and tenacity of Suarez combined with the brute power and athleticism of Carroll could prove to be the most formidable attacking duo in the league –- including Man U's dynamic duo of Wayne Rooney and Chicarito.

So as rumors fly about the landing place of midfielder X or Y, or who will arrive to allow Glen Johnson to return to the right side of the field, little question remains about the top of the field, which is where the Reds hope to land at the end of the Premiership.
