Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein has said in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline that he would probably look to add a right-handed outfield bat to the Sox. We now know two of his reported potential targets.

First, and perhaps the more realistic target for the Sox is Rockies outfielder Ryan Spilborghs. According to SI's Jon Heyman, Boston has considered acquiring Spilborghs to use him as a fourth outfielder. Heyman also pointed out that the Sox have been "impressed" by the play of Josh Reddick, and that it's likely the club is no longer interested in acquiring Carlos Beltran from the Mets.

CSNNE's Sean McAdam tweeted that he spoke to a National League source who confirmed that the Sox are in on Spilborghs. However, ESPN.com's Gordon Edes also tweeted about Spilborghs, but he cited a Red Sox source that said the team is not in on Spilborghs.

Regardless, there were multiple reports indicating that a Rockies scout is in attendance for Tuesday night's Red Sox-Royals game.

Another named that popped up on Tuesday afternoon was Houston outfielder Hunter Pence. Fox's Ken Rosenthal reported that the Phillies been aggressively pursuing the outfielder, but Rosenthal did say that the Red Sox have inquired with the Astros about him. However, the Red Sox and Astros are reportedly struggling to find the right mix of chips to make a deal.
