David Ortiz has been banged up like a number of other Red Sox players and hasn't played since Aug. 14. But the slugger's return could be imminent.

Ortiz has received medical clearance and could be available in a pinch-hit role on Tuesday night before potentially returning to the starting lineup on Wednesday in the third game of a four-game set with the Rangers in Texas, according to NESN's Heidi Watney.

Ortiz has missed the Sox' last eight games before Tuesday night's matchup with the Rangers due to right heel bursitis. He wasn't placed on the disabled list with the injury, though, which means no roster moves need to be made before he returns.
