JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy has injured his right wrist while trying to play a shot against a tree root in the opening round of the PGA Championship.

McIlroy was playing his second shot on the third hole, the ball up against roots. He let the club fall out of his hands after impact. Within minutes, he asked for an ice compress for his wrist, and he was constantly flexing it.
