The Red Sox, who head into the final two days of the season tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League Wild Card, start Jed Lowrie in the cleanup spot Tuesday at Baltimore.

Lowrie starts at third base for the third consecutive game in place of the injured Kevin Youkilis, who is still dealing with a sports hernia and will require surgery when the season is finished. The Red Sox hope that isn't Wednesday.

Lowrie, a switch-hitter, will face O's left-hander Zach Britton (11-10, 4.44 ERA). Erik Bedard (5-9, 3.50) takes the mound for Boston.

Jacoby Ellsbury leads off, followed by Dustin Pedroia. Designated hitter David Ortiz is in the three-hole, followed by Lowrie and Adrian Gonzalez in the fifth spot.

Ryan Lavarnway will catch and bat sixth in the order. Darnell McDonald, Carl Crawford and Marco Scutaro round out the bottom of the lineup.
