Toledo Loses to Syracuse After Blown Extra Point Call in Fourth Quarter Upheld on Replay (Video)

The referees on the field didn't get it right while the play was going on. The replay officials didn't get it right, either, after taking a second look.

During the fourth quarter of Saturday's matchup between Toledo and Syracuse, the Orange's Alex Lemon caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback from Ryan Nassib to give the team a 29-27 lead with just over two minutes remaining.

The ensuing point-after was called good on the field, giving Syracuse a 30-27 lead. However, on a second look, the ball clearly sailed wide left. The play was reviewed, but the call on the field was "confirmed," and Syracuse kept its three-point advantage.

Toledo would end up driving down the field and kicking a field goal to send the game into overtime. From there, an interception by the Rockets' quarterback, Austin Dantin, set up a game-winning field goal for Syracuse. The kick was good and Syracuse won 33-30.

If the PAT from Syracuse's drive in the fourth quarter had been ruled no good, Toledo would have won the game and there would have been no need for overtime.

The Big East issued a press release apologizing for the error.

A video of the missed PAT can be viewed below. (Thanks to Sports Grid for pointing to the video.)
