Chris Cooley Says Tony Romo’s Collapse Against Lions Was ‘Hilarious’, Wants to Fight Cowboys Quarterback in Cage

Though it hasn't provided much sizzle in recent years, the rivalry between the Cowboys and Redskins remains one of the most heated in the NFL. Redskins tight end Chris Cooley revels in delight any time the Cowboys lose, and he makes no effort to hide his excitement in any Dallas defeat.

In a Monday interview with the Washington, D.C., radio station WJFK-FM, Cooley seemed particularly tickled to discuss the Cowboys' 34-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday, a game Dallas led 27-3 in the third quarter. Cooley singled out Tony Romo's performance after the Cowboys quarterback threw three interceptions in the second half, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

"It's amazing, amazing to watch him choke like that," Cooley told WJFK. "I'm just saying, I'm up 24 points in the third quarter, if I'm the head coach, I feel like I could probably just take a knee for the rest of the game, punt it away and there's no way that Detroit's gonna drive on you that many times. The only way you're gonna give up that many points is turnovers, right? It's hilarious to watch him throw pick sixes, too, back-to-back. I loved it."

The brash tight end also wasn't shy in describing his desire to engage in a cage-fighting match with Romo.

"I'm gonna be honest, I don't know what kind of cage-fighting skills he has," Cooley said. "I would probably try to incorporate my wrestling ability, like when I was in high school."

Much like the Cowboys' agonizing defeat from Sunday, Cooley said he would take his time in defeating Romo.

"Obviously it's been a while, but I didn't like to beat people fast. I like to embarrass 'em a little bit. Like, take a 24-point lead, and then just play with it a little bit."
