Derek Jeter Responds to Bobby Valentine's Analysis of 'Flip Play,' Says Red Sox 'Must Be Bored Over There'If you’re a baseball fan, you know two things about Derek Jeter‘s infamous “flip play” against the A’s in the playoffs. One, it was a spectacular play that belongs on highlight reels forever, and two, Jeremy Giambi should have slid.

After Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine called Jeter “out of position” on that play and insinuated that the Yankees never practiced anything like that, Jeter fired back on Wednesday morning.

“We don’t practice it?” Jeter asked. “We do. You guys see it. What else can I say. I was out of position? I was where I was supposed to be.

“Who cares?” the Yankees shortstop continued. “Why are we talking about this? They must be bored over there, huh? I don’t understand.”

Former Red Sox skipper and current ESPN analyst Terry Francona was also visiting the Yankees on Wednesday and he weighed in on the miniature controversy.

“To me, it’s not important whether the Yankees practice that play or not,” Francona said. “The fact of the matter is that he’s good enough to make that play. You could practice that play until you’re blue in the face, and he’s probably still the only guy who makes that play. That play was part of baseball lore.”

Jeter continued to say that he didn’t consider Valentine’s comments a big deal, but that may change when the two teams meet for the first time during the regular season on April 20.
