Red Sox Live Blog: Gavin Floyd Leads White Sox Past Red Sox With 4-1 Victory

Final 9th, White Sox 4-1: Josh Beckett's only blemish was in the first inning, when he yielded three runs, including a two-run shot to Adam Dunn.

Other than that, Beckett and Gavin Floyd were locked in a pitcher's duel, with Floyd throwing 6 1/3 innings of no-hit ball at one point. Floyd eventually allowed one run on a Cody Ross RBI single.

It marks Boston sole loss of the road trip.

End 8th, White Sox 4-1: After a grueling rehab from Tommy John surgery, Rich Hill has made his return and debuted in the eighth inning.

The bad news was that Hill surrendered a run in the outing, snapping his streak of scoreless innings in a Red Sox uniform.

It took Junichi Tazawa — who has been very impressive — to come in and record the last out.

Mid 8th, White Sox 3-1: Ryan Sweeney's nine-game hitting streak is over. Bobby Valentine put in Darnell McDonald to pinch-hit for Sweeney to end the run.

Meanwhile, White Sox reliever Matt Thornton struck out Darnell McDonald on fastballs to preserve the two-run lead.

End 7th, White Sox 3-1: That inning felt like it took forever. For the second straight game, a Red Sox starting pitcher exceeded the 120-pitch mark.

Despite allowing three runs in the first, Beckett was dominant ever since, racking up eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings before Scott Atchison took over.

With one pitch, Atchison helped the Red Sox end the threat.

Mid 7th, White Sox 3-1: The no-hitter is gone. After getting the first out of the inning, Floyd allowed a single to Dustin Pedroia.

He lost his magic touch from there, surrendering a double to David Ortiz and a single to Cody Ross before getting yanked to an ovation.

Aside from Ross' RBI single, the White Sox escaped and Floyd put together a nice performance.

End 6th, White Sox 3-0: It's almost the same story as Saturday's game. If it wasn't for Ryan Sweeney's blooper, the game may have been tied and gone into extra innings.

In this one, the game would still be tied if Adam Dunn didn't tee off on Beckett in the first inning. That said, we've also been treated to a pair of pitching duels.

Mid 6th, White Sox 3-0: When you have it going, sometimes you just having it going. Right now, Gavin Floyd is flummoxing the Red Sox' bats.

Entering the game, Marlon Byrd had a six-game hitting streak, but that may now be on the rocks.

Is Floyd channeling Philip Humber's magic? Who knows, but we'll see soon enough.

End 5th, White Sox 3-0: The Red Sox' six-game win streak remains in jeopardy.

With a win against the White Sox, however, the Red Sox would sweep a road trip of at least seven games for just the second time in franchise history. Josh Beckett is doing everything in his power to keep it going.

Mid 5th, White Sox 3-0: The perfect game is over for Gavin Floyd. With two outs, he walked Cody Ross on a full count.

But he still owns a no-hitter. Even as he pitched from the stretch for the first time all game, Floyd struck out Nick Punto by throwing some pure heat.

End 4th, White Sox 3-0: Josh Beckett racked up two more strikeouts there and has settled down since giving up a homer to Adam Dunn.

Below, you'll see I mentioned Beckett's catcher Kelly Shoppach's birthday was Sunday. This also marks pitching coach Bob McClure's birthday. So, I'm sure Beckett would like to reward them with a strong performance.

Mid 4th, White Sox 3-0: Gavin Floyd is perfect through four innings, having racked up six strikeouts so far.

Also of note, White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko was scratched from this one because of a stiff neck. But Floyd is doing a strong job of carrying Chicago through this one.

End 3rd, White Sox 3-0: The Red Sox certainly lucked out in this inning when Alex Rios belted a ball to left field.

Due to the windy conditions, the ball ended up as a fly out. On a normal day, however, it would've been out of the park for a round-tripper.

Mid 3rd, White Sox 3-0: Most of you are probably wondering why Nick Punto is in at third base for Kevin Youkilis.

It's because Youkilis was scratched with lower back tightness. With another series starting on Monday, it's likely Valentine wanted to be cautious with Youkilis, who is finding his groove.

Punto and Marlon Byrd were the latest strikeout victims to Floyd.

End 2nd, White Sox 3-0: The second inning proved to be a much better inning for Josh Beckett.

He's also throwing to Kelly Shoppach once again. Before the game, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine told reporters in Chicago that he was starting Shoppach on Sunday because it was his birthday.

That's all swell and good, but it's clear that Beckett and Shoppach are developing a rapport.

Mid 2nd, White Sox 3-0: That breaking ball from Floyd has been devastating. He got Adrian Gonzalez and Cody Ross whiffing on strikes with it.

That's three strikeouts for Floyd so far. As you may remember, the pitcher was also the subject of trade rumors over the offseason.

End 1st, White Sox 3-0: Adam Dunn absolutely crushed Josh Beckett's pitch out of the park, notching his fifth homer of the season.

Clearly, Dunn has left last year's problems in the past, when he slugged a career-low 11 homers and 42 RBIs.

With 16 RBIs so far, he's on pace to shatter those numbers by the All-Star break. That's a resurgence right there.

Mid 1st, 0-0: Like Jake Peavy on Saturday, Gavin Floyd tossed a 1-2-3 inning to start the game.

He struck out Ryan Sweeney swinging. With his 11th double of the season on Saturday, Sweeney matched his double output from the entire 2011 season with the Athletics.

He did so in less than 200 plate appearances compared to last season.

8 a.m. ET: The winning streak has reached six games, and the Red Sox (10-10) are looking to break out the brooms against the White Sox (10-11) and notch back-to-back sweeps for the first time this season. The responsibility of achieving that goal will fall on Josh Beckett's shoulders.

Beckett, who tossed six frames in his last go-around against the Twins, is 2-2 with a 4.56 ERA this season.

He will go up against right-hander Gavin Floyd, who allowed only two hits over 7 1/3 innings in his last outing against the Athletics despite losing 2-0. Floyd is now 1-3 with a 3.60 ERA this season.
