Is Dwight Howard or Stan Van Gundy More Likely to Be With the Orlando Magic Next Season?

Is Dwight Howard or Stan Van Gundy More Likely to Be With the Orlando Magic Next Season?Dwight Howard is arguably the most important player in the NBA. With the star center sidelined with a herniated disk, the Orlando Magic have sputtered in their first-round series against the Pacers.

Although the Magic are trailing three games to one, they still have one of the most respected coaches in the league in Stan Van Gundy. In his fifth year with the team, he has taken Orlando to the playoffs every season during his tenure.

Together, the duo would seemingly provide nothing but headaches for opponents. Unfortunately, the only headaches the Howard-Van Gundy relationship has caused have been in Orlando.

Amid longstanding rumors that Howard was demanding a trade from the Magic, tensions were high between the star and his coach. Ultimately, the 6-foot-11 center decided to stay in Orlando. But that didn't stop him from allegedly trying to shake things up.

In a statement to the press on April 5, Van Gundy claimed he had credible sources informing him that Howard demanded the head coach be fired. To add to the awkwardness, Howard ambled over in the middle of that very interview, leaving nothing but brutal tension hanging in the air before Van Gundy hurried away.

With the Magic likely falling to the Pacers without their star player, the offseason will start very soon in Orlando. And with that offseason will likely come a myriad of changes to the franchise's personnel and staff. But one choice looms heavier than the others: Will the Magic keep Van Gundy or Howard for the 2012-13 season?
