David Ortiz’ troublesome Achilles not only landed him on the disabled list, but it will also keep him on the East Coast for the beginning of Boston’s upcoming road trip.

The slugger, batting .316 on the year with 23 home runs and 58 RBIs, will not travel to Texas for Boston’s upcoming three-game set with the Rangers. He will instead wait to hopefully rejoin the team next weekend for its series against the Yankees in New York.

Ortiz has been on the disabled list since Wednesday, July 18 after straining his Achilles tendon in Monday’s game against the White Sox. He suffered the injury rounding the bases on Adrian Gonzalez‘ eighth-inning go-ahead home run.

The Boston Globe’s Michael Vega talks about Ortiz’ situation and some other injury updates in the above video from Red Sox GameDay LIVE presented by UNO.
