Usain Bolt Credits Bayern Munich Doctor Hans Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt for Olympic Success

The ties that bind Usain Bolt and the game of soccer continue to show themselves.

The sprint king credited, Hans Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt — doctor for both Bayern Munich and Germany’s national team — for his success at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, according to Bundesliga.com.

“He’s the best doctor in the world,” Bolt said. “The doctor is a great, great man.

“He’s a major part of my success in my career,” the 25-year-old added. “I’ve been going to him since I was 18 or 19. Since I first started, he’s really done great work on me.

In late June, Bolt was having problems with his hamstring. They were bad enough that he lost to teammate and rival Yohan Blake in the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Jamaican Olympic trials.

Bolt immediately flew to Munich, Germany, where he was treated by the good doctor.

“After the trials he looked at my muscles, did his treatment and said: ‘Don’t worry, Usain. You’re going to do great. Just go back and train,'” Bolt continued.

“He’s more than a doctor,” added the sprinter. “He takes me to dinner, looks after me, comes in on weekends to treat me and make sure I’m okay. I thank him for all he has done for me.”

Bolt was dominant at the London Olympics, winning gold medals in the three events in which he participated. Victories in the 100, 200 and 4X100-meter races made him the first man in 108 years to win gold medals in those events in consecutive Olympics.

There’s a decent chance Bolt will retain Müller-Wohlfahrt’s services going forward. He hasn’t revealed his track plans, but the “triple-double” winner wants to try out for Manchester United. His favorite doctor has a good amount of skill and experience in that particular field.
