Boston College will take the ice against Vermont on Saturday without its head coach.

Eagles coach Jerry York will miss the remainder of the Hockey East quarterfinal series after suffering a detached retina in his right eye Saturday morning, according to the school. York is scheduled to undergo eye surgery in Boston on Monday.

BC defeated the Catamounts 4-2 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 series Friday night and will look to clinch a spot in next weekend’s conference semifinals with a victory on Saturday. A loss would result in a winner-take-all Game 3 at Conte Forum the following afternoon.

It is not yet known whether York would be able to return to the bench if his team advances to the Garden rounds. Associate coaches Mike Cavanaugh and Greg Brown will lead the team in his absence.
