Penn State Coach Bill O’Brien Visited With Patriots Staff at OTAs on Thursday

The Patriots held their third day of organized team activities on Thursday, and it seems an old friend was in attendance.

Former Patriots offensive coordinator and current Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien was at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, at least according to one of his former players and rookie cornerback Stephon Morris.

Morris and rookie center Matt Stankiewitch both played for O’Brien at Penn State in 2012, and the two had great things to say about him during rookie minicamp. O’Brien probably checked in with his former players at the practice, but it’s likely his purpose was more to meet and discuss strategy with Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels.

O’Brien had a major impact on the Patriots’ offensive scheme during his five-year stint in New England, so his input on the future of the offense would be understandable. Also, with Greg Schiano no longer at Rutgers, Belichick may be looking to O’Brien as the source of the Patriots next college pipeline.
