Well, that certainly escalated quickly.

What started off as some minor shoving and smack talking during the final minute of a junior college football game Saturday night between Long Beach City College and College of the Desert shifted into full-blown brawl territory within seconds.

The jawing started when a player (No. 55) from the visiting College of the Desert, which was trailing 55-10 at the time, attempted to pick up and return a Long Beach fumble long after the play had been blown dead. A Long Beach player was leveled with cheap-shot during the return, prompting the initial scuffle.

Flags flew, and referees appeared to have the situation under control until another Desert player came flying into the scrum from out of nowhere, nailing a Long Beach lineman in the back with an airborne kick.

All hell broke loose from there, as players, coaches, trainers and fans from both sides stormed onto the field and began throwing haymakers at one another. Close to 100 people littered the playing surface by the time the fighting finally subsided, forcing officials to call the game with time still on the clock.

See how it all transpired in the video below, with a hat tip to @RedditCFB.
