Vancouver Canucks winger Zack Kassian caught heat earlier this season for apparently mocking a face shield worn by Edmonton Oilers center Sam Gagner. In what Oilers fans might see as karma — a high stick by Kassian broke Gagner’s jaw in the first place — it was Kassian who could have benefited from some facial protection Sunday night.

The 22-year-old forward took a skate to the face from teammate Tom Sestito during a loss to the Anaheim Ducks, the result of a errant check by Sestito on Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm.

Kassian left the game after the hit, but the injury likely will not sideline him for long. Canucks coach John Tortorella said after the game that Kassian’s status is “day-to-day,” according to NHL.com’s Curtis Zupke.
