The 2014 MLB All-Star Game will be remembered as baseball’s retirement party for New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Some fans wish the Midsummer Classic also paid tribute to one of the game’s all-time best.

Tuesday night’s All-Star Game marked the first since Tony Gwynn passed away in June. Some fans expected some sort of tribute or even a mention of Gwynn at the game or during the FOX telecast. That never came, however, and that upset some baseball fans and media.

The Padres even got in on the act. Shortly after the game ended, the Padres tweeted out this photo on their official Twitter account.

It’s unclear whether that tweet was aimed at MLB and FOX or just a coincidence. The timing of the tweet, however, is pretty undeniable.

Deadspin pointed out after the All-Star Game that Jeter’s name was mentioned 100 times during the FOX telecast without one mention of Gwynn.
