Adrian Peterson’s Alma Mater To Wear Poorly Timed ‘Bring The Wood’ Uniforms

There’s obviously no ill intent, but you can’t help but notice the irony and poor timing when it comes to the uniforms the University of Oklahoma will wear this weekend.

No. 4 OU will travel to West Virginia this weekend, and the high-profile matchup is giving the Sooners a chance to break out some new uniforms. There’s nothing controversial about the unis themselves, but the name of said uniforms is a bit unfortunate.

Oklahoma will wear their “Bring the Wood” alternate set this weekend, according to ESPN’s Bret McMurphy. “Bring the wood” in a football sense means to lay a big hit on an opponent, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Here’s where it gets kind of awkward, though. Adrian Peterson went to Oklahoma. The Minnesota Vikings running back is in hot water after he was indicted on a felony charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child. Peterson allegedly beat his 4-year-old son with a “switch,” also known as a tree branch.

So, yeah, “bringing the wood” probably isn’t a great association for the Sooners right now.

Regardless, here are what the uniforms look like.
