Marion BarberLife after the NFL has apparently not been kind to Marion Barber.

The former Dallas Cowboys star, who last played for the Chicago Bears in 2011, was detained and taken in for a mental health evaluation in June.

According to TMZ, the reason why Barber was taken in stemmed from an incident in Mansfield, Texas, in which he entered a church with a loaded gun.

TMZ’s report states that Barber was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun containing “51 hollow-point bullets” and, once inside the church, “removed his jacket, showing the congregants his firearm in public.”

The police reportedly found Barber on the scene and noted that the former running back seemed disoriented and did not know where he was. They then reportedly took him to a local hospital, where they decided not to charge Barber after performing a mental health check on the 31-year-old.

Barber spent the majority of his playing career in Dallas, located roughly 40 miles northeast of Mansfield, and was named to his only Pro Bowl in 2007.
