FinneganBrandon Finnegan is only 21 years old and has pitched less than seven weeks in the majors, but he’s already going to Cooperstown.

Sort of.

The Kansas City Royals reliever made history Friday night in Game 3 of the 2014 World Series by becoming the first player to pitch in a College World Series and World Series in the same year. As a result, the Hall of Fame asked for his cap and he obliged, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.

Finnegan pitched for Texas Christian University during the College World Series in June.

Almost three months later, the pitcher was playing with the big boys in Kansas City as a September call-up. He earned a spot on the postseason roster after boasting a 1.29 ERA, 10 strikeouts and a walk in seven innings of relief.

Perhaps Finnegan’s experience in pressure situations paid off. He entered the game in the 7th inning with a runner on base and one out, but got the next two outs to end the inning.

“Nothing’s hit me yet,” Finnegan said after the game, per Yahoo! Sports. “When the season’s over and I’m hanging around with my friends and they’re blowing my ear up about it, then I think I’ll realize what happened. Until then, it’s still go time.”
