vitor faveraniVitor Faverani is back. Well, sort of.

Faverani, who underwent surgery on his left knee last month, declared himself “100 percent better” when speaking with reporters Saturday at Boston Celtics practice. When the second-year center actually will be healthy enough to return to game action, however, is anyone’s guess.

“This is the second surgery in one year, so we don’t talk about the time (for a return),” Faverani said as he addressed the media for the first time since his surgery, via MassLive.com. “Just try to get better faster. It just depends on my knee, depending how my knee recovers. We work hard every day to get better. So I’m happy. I think the progression’s very good.”

Faverani’s debut season was cut short when he underwent meniscus surgery in March, but he was expected to be at full health to begin his sophomore campaign. Complications emerged during training camp, however, prompting Faverani to head back to Spain for a second procedure.

“It’s tough,” Faverani said. “But it’s just my life. Everybody gets injuries sometimes. So this is my first injury. I’m just happy because we have great doctors, great therapy guys. And just try to get better.”

Faverani’s rehab thus far has been limited to pool workouts and light work on a stationary bike, he told reporters. His next step would be moving up to a non-weight-bearing treadmill.

The Brazilian big man averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 37 games as a rookie. He is the lone member of the Celtics’ 15-man roster who has not yet seen playing time this season.
