Boston University didn’t let a road game against a non-conference opponent slow down its impressive season.

The No. 2 Terriers (11-3-2) traveled to Troy, N.Y., and scored three goals in the second period en route to a decisive 5-1 win over Rensselaer (6-12-1).

Star forward Jack Eichel was kept out of the goal column but still made his impact felt, assisting on back-to-back BU goals in the second period. His first assist, a pass to Danny O’Regan on the power play that put the Terriers up 2-0, proved to be all the team needed to come away with a victory. Terriers goaltender Matt O’Connor made 35 saves — including 18 in the first period — on 36 shots in the win.

Senior forward Evan Rodrigues led the way on the score sheet, tallying three assists. The Engineers got on the board near the end of the third period with a goal from Miloš Bubela, but it proved too little too late.

Boston University will take a break from its regular-season schedule next Friday night when it takes on the USA Junior Team in an exhibition game at Walter Brown Arena.

Around the League:

Boston College 5, Michigan 1: The No. 16 Eagles (9-7-1) put forth an impressive effort against the Wolverines (8-7-0), scoring three straight goals in the first period to take a commanding lead. Michigan answered with a goal in the third period, but two late scores from BC forward Quinn Smith shut the door for good.

Vermont 2, St. Lawrence 0: The No. 10 Catamounts (13-3-1) earned their sixth straight win behind a huge effort from goaltender Mike Santaguida, who stopped all 35 shots he faced from the Saints (8-8-1). Kevin Irwin and Brady Shaw scored in the second and third periods, respectively, to give Vermont the win.

UNH 7, Maine 4: The Wildcats (5-10-1) atoned for Friday’s loss to the Black Bears (4-13-1) with a hard-fought victory in a back-and-forth affair. Maine scored three straight goals in the second period to take a 4-3 lead, but UNH stormed back to net the game’s final four scores, three of which came from forward Grayson Downing.
