It took them nearly five months, but the Boston Red Sox finally got their “player to be named later.”

The Red Sox acquired minor-league shortstop Marco Hernandez from the Chicago Cubs to complete the Felix Doubront trade, general manager Ben Cherington announced Monday night.

Boston traded Doubront to Chicago at MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline in exchange for a future acquisition. The lefthanded pitcher was placed on the Cubs’ disabled list a day later but returned to start four games in the month of September.

In Hernandez, the Red Sox get a 22-year-old left-handed batter who spent the 2014 season with Chicago’s High-A team, the Daytona Cubs. Hernandez hit at a .270 clip with a team-high seven triples and 22 stolen bases and was named to the Florida State League mid-season All-Star team.

The Dominican Republic native signed with the Cubs as an international free agent in July 2009 and rose gradually through Chicago’s ranks over the next five years. He’ll continue that rise with Boston’s organization, as Cherington announced that Hernandez has been assigned to Double-A Portland.
