Jim Rome isn’t shy when it comes to dishing out hot sports takes. On Thursday, though, he messed with the wrong crowd.

During college football’s New Year’s Day bowl games, the radio host decided to offer his opinion on one of the sport’s time-honored traditions.

As you might have guessed, Rome quickly deleted the tweet, but not before drawing the wrath of the marching band community on social media. And what a glorious wrath it was.

The overwhelming response from the marching band community was enough for Rome to tweet out an apology Friday.

Pro tip: Don’t mess with college football marching bands. Especially after they pulled off awesome acts like this one at the Rose Bowl.
