The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to bring the best player in franchise history back to where he started his career.

ESPN.com reports the T-Wolves are actively trying to acquire Kevin Garnett in a trade with the Brookyln Nets. According to the ESPN.com report, Minnesota is offering Thaddeus Young in exchange for the probable Hall of Famer.

ESPN.com’s Marc Stein cites sources that both teams have been in “serious discussions” in regards to the deal. Additionally, the trade would need Garnett’s approval in order for it to be completed.

That’s where the two teams could run into problems, as Garnett has recently stated he’s not really looking for an in-season move out of Brooklyn.

Neither team is very good, so a trade might not have huge immediate implications. However, the Nets do sit just one game out of the Eastern Conference playoff field. The T-Wolves, however, have the NBA’s second-worst record.

Garnett played the first 12 seasons of his legendary career in Minnesota where he was incredible, averaging more than 20 points and 11 rebounds per game. He was then traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007 where he eventually went on to win the first and only NBA title of his career.

While Garnett is no longer capable of turning around a franchise — the 38-year-old is averaging just 6.8 points and 5.7 points per game while averaging 20 minutes per night — he still offers some value. Garnett’s leadership alone could be a worthwhile pursuit, as the Timberwolves have a handful of young players, including No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins who could benefit from being around a player like Garnett.
