ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Alex Rodriguez hit two home runs, moving within two of tying Willie Mays for fourth place on the career all-time list.
Rodriguez hit his 657th and 658th homers Friday night for the New York Yankees to lead them to a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
In the second inning, Rodriguez drove an 0-1 pitch from Nathan Karns an estimated 471 feet over the wall in center. A-Rod then lined a two-run shot to left off Ernesto Frieri in the sixth for his fourth home run of the year.
Rodriguez posted his 61st multihomer game and first since May 23, 2012. He missed all of last season because of a drug suspension.
