If you weren’t watching Notts County Ladies’ game against Arsenal Ladies on Friday, you missed something akin to a comet or shooting star. Luckily, the Internet allows us to relieve one of the best free kick routines in recent memory.

Ellen White scored the opening goal for Notts County after she and her teammates faked an argument over who would take a free kick from a dangerous position. Notts County Ladies’ free-kick routine is bringing global attention to the Women’s Super League (English women’s soccer soccer’s first division) just two months before the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off in Canada.

Laura Bassett started Notts County Ladies’ ingenious free kick routine by stepping toward the ball then stopping in her tracks. Bassett argued for a few seconds with teammate Alex Greenwood, who cleverly slipped a passed to White, who was waiting nearby to curl a shot past the goalkeeper.

White’s goal put Notts County in front, but Arsenal ultimately managed to tie the score in less notable fashion.

After the game, White said she doesn’t expect to repeat that goal.

“Thankfully it came off,” White told BBC Radio Nottingham. “But now we can never do it again, which is a little annoying.”
