You can’t talk about UFC’s best fighters and not mention Conor McGregor.
The 26-year-old currently is preparing for what might be the most important fight of his career next month in UFC 189 against Jose Aldo.
One person who definitely will be watching is Dwayne Johnson, known from his WWE days as “The Rock.”
“I love the guy,” Johnson said of McGregor in a recent interview with Entertainment.ie. “I love Aldo, too, by the way. You know, I respect these fighters so incredibly much. I love UFC and I think it’s going to be amazing fight.”
Anyone who watched The Rock in the WWE knows he was a confident guy. Even though WWE’s results obviously are scripted, “The Rock” never was lacking in confidence or energy during any event, and he sees some of that brashness in McGregor.
“What I love about Conor is the same thing, by the way, that I love about Aldo,” Johnson said. “With Aldo, there’s a quiet confidence, and in Conor the confidence is not quiet, and it reminds me of how I was in the WWE. I was just bold and talking (expletive), and there was nothing that I wouldn’t say.”
UFC president Dana White also is a fan of McGregor’s confidence.
“You have a guy like Jose Aldo, who’s gone undefeated for 10 years, defended his title 10 times and is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” White said, via UFC.com. “He’s going against a guy like Conor, who burst onto the scene with 13 straight wins and has this confidence in himself and that thing that attracts people to him.
“Conor has come into the UFC and basically done everything he said he was going to do. Now the question is: Can he beat Jose Aldo?”
We’ll find out Saturday, July 11, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
