If you dished out the 100 bucks to watch the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight on pay-per-view — or had the cash lying around for tickets — then at least one person from HBO feels your pain.

HBO boxing commentator Jim Lampley said on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Tuesday that he feels “terrible” for anyone who spent money on the megafight now that we know that Pacquiao took the loss with a “significant tear” in his shoulder.

“It was a cynical enterprise to begin with in certain ways and now seems even moreso,” Lampley said, via For The Win. “I feel terrible (for those) who spent four figures on a ticket, I feel bad for people who spent 89, 90, 100 dollars on pay-per-view who were not given proper information in advance on what it was they were seeing.

“I think there may be a constituency of people who think it’s in some way noble and brave for Pacquiao to go ahead and enter the ring with an injury and try to perform, but I think that the only way that would wash is if the public had known in advance, and to have gone ahead with the enterprise when one of the fighters turns out to be damaged goods.”

It’s interesting that a boxing commentator, who should know that Mayweather’s defensive style of boxing is “boring” to the average viewer, blamed Pacquiao’s injury as the sole reason for the dull fight. Then again, Lampley probably knows he’ll score another big payday if there’s a rematch.
