Some Jacksonville Jaguars fans think the team’s play-calling is elementary, which prompted Blake Bortles to say something childish.
The Jaguars quarterback defended head coach Gus Bradley and the rest of the Jacksonville coaching staff Wednesday by going after fans who have critcized the Jags’ playcalling.
Bortles’ choice of analogies, however, was less than ideal.
“It’s like kindergartners saying something to college kids,” Bortle said, per Mark Long of The Associated Press.
It’s usually not a good idea to put down the fan base like that, as Bortles will probably quickly learn. Also, the proof is kind of in the pudding. The Jaguars’ offense gained the seventh-fewest yards and didn’t score a touchdown in a 20-9 Week 1 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Not a great start to the season after a 2014 campaign in which the Jaguars had the 31st-ranked offense in terms of total yards and ranked dead last in points scored.
But, hey, maybe it’s not the scheme and play-calling. Maybe it’s the players like at, you know, the quarterback position.
