Chip Kelly Asked About Benching Sam Bradford, Gets Snippy With Reporters

It appears Chip Kelly is starting to feel the heat.

The Philadelphia Eagles head coach has had a forgettable start to the 2015 season. His team has been dreadful — particularly on offense — and it’s led to questions about Kelly’s system and personnel decisisions.

Right next to Kelly on the firing line is quarterback Sam Bradford. The former St. Louis Ram, who Kelly acquired in the offseason, has been one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks through two weeks. He’ll enter the Eagles’ Week 3 matchup with the New York Jets with a 72.3 passer rating, as he’s already thrown four interceptions to two touchdowns.

However, Kelly was in no mood to discuss the possibility of Bradford being benched in favor of backup Mark Sanchez at any point in the near future. Kelly had a conference call with New York reporters Wednesday that could be better described as a sparring session, at least as it pertained to the quarterback position.

Kelly also seemed to take exception to questions about his play-calling, saying the Eagles just need to play better.

“I think we’ve been varied in our two games, and through our preseason and everything, we’ve been doing a different job, changing formations and things like that. When you’re not successful, I think guys are grasping at excuses, to be honest with you. We still need to block and tackle,” Kelly said, per ProFootballTalk.com. “What I’m saying is, we need to execute.”
