New England Patriots fullback James Develin’s season reportedly is over.

The Patriots will place Develin on season-ending injured reserve, a source told the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe on Tuesday. Develin reportedly fractured the fibia in his right leg Friday night against the Carolina Panthers.

Placing Develin on injured reserve will free up a roster spot for the Patriots, who had 80 players after acquiring wide receiver Jalen Saunders in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

The Patriots must cut four more players after placing Develin on IR. They must trim their roster to 75 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m.

It’s unclear who the Patriots will replace Develin at fullback, though tight end Michael Hoomanawanui has experience at the position.
