UPDATE (6:15 p.m. ET): St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Monday that wide receiver Wes Welker has signed a contract with the team.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter the sides agreed to a one-year deal.

ORIGINAL POST: The St. Louis Rams must have been listening when Wes Welker expressed bewilderment over not having an NFL job.

Welker worked out for the Rams on Monday, a source informed of the situation told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The news comes just days after the free-agent wide receiver told Rapoport he was surprised no team has signed him yet this season.

Welker had a very successful six-year run with the New England Patriots before signing with the Denver Broncos prior to the 2013 season. He eclipsed the 100-catch and 1,100-yard marks in five separate seasons, earning five Pro Bowl selections as Tom Brady’s go-to target.

But Welker’s two-year stint with the Broncos was marred by injuries, and his production suffered as a result. The 34-year-old has suffered three documented concussions in his NFL career.

Hakeem Nicks and Vincent Brown also were expected to work out for the Rams on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, so Welker has competition in his attempt to land a job.
