Faiz Subri’s name has never entered the radars of most soccer fans outside of Malaysia, but it now should.

Subri scored one of the most astonishing goals we’ve ever seen Tuesday in a Malaysia Super League game. His free kick from around 35 yards out bent one way, then the other as it flew into the top corner of the goal.

SB Nation’s heavy lifting determined the wind wasn’t gusting and the ball wasn’t special. Full credit must go to Subri for daring to score such a goal and having the technique to pull it off.

Not only did Subri’s goal help Penang beat Pahang 4-1, but it also is a sure-fire contender for the 2016 FIFA Puskas Award, which goes to the player whose goal is voted by fans as the best of the year.

It also harkens back to that goal former Brazil and Real Madrid hero Roberto Carlos scored against France in 1997.

Remember Subri’s name, if for no other reason than this gem of a strike.
