Deflategate Poll: General Public Doesn’t Believe Tom Brady, Patriots

Newsflash: People outside of New England are skeptical of Tom Brady and the Patriots.

This is common knowledge by now, but a recent survey conducted by Yahoo! Sports hammers home the point that most Americans simply don’t trust the Pats when it comes to Deflategate.

According to the survey, which polled 1,174 American adults between March 4 and March 7, 2016, just 16.3 percent of respondents believe Brady and the Patriots didn’t do anything wrong as it relates to the underinflated football scandal that has permeated headlines since January 2015. On the flip side, 40.3 percent of respondents believe the NFL’s side of the Deflategate story. The remaining 43.4 percent don’t know who to believe.

The results are far different when viewed through a New England lens. Of the respondents from New England, 58 percent believe Brady and Co., whereas just 18.7 percent believe commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL. The remaining 23.3 percent are torn.

Again, none of this information is that shocking. There’s an apparent nationwide distrust of the Patriots that dates to Spygate, and that skepticism only intensified once Deflategate broke. But it’s always interesting to see exactly where people stand, especially on the heels of the NFL’s Deflategate appeal, which reportedly went well for the league.

Sorry, Patriots fans. It’s still you against the world.
