Report: Josh Norman Wants $16M Per Season To Be Highest-Paid Cornerback

Josh Norman was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL last season, and he wants to be paid like one.

The Carolina Panthers used the $13.95 million franchise tag on Norman this offseason, but the cornerback has yet to sign the contract. And, per the Charlotte Observer, that’s because Norman is looking for a long-term contract closer to $16 million per season.

With four interceptions, two touchdowns and 18 passes defensed for the NFC champion Panthers last season, there’s no doubt Norman was among 2015’s elite corners. Norman also was a Pro Bowler last season and a first-team All-Pro, but there certainly will be plenty of debate over whether Norman’s breakout season is worth a huge contract. The Panthers play a lot of zone defense rather than man-to-man, too, so that certainly will be a point of contention.

A $16 million-per-season deal would make Norman the highest-paid corner in the NFL, ahead of the likes of Darrelle Revis, Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman, who all average around $14 million per season.
