NFL Rumors: Robert Griffin III, Jets Will Meet As QB Shuffle Continues

The New York Jets’ quarterback situation is very much up in the air, and it sounds as if they’re open to a variety of options.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited league sources in reporting that the Jets and Robert Griffin III will meet Friday. Griffin is a free agent after the Washington Redskins released him earlier in the week.

The Jets are sorting through various options as their 2015 quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, tests the free-agent waters himself.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets reportedly reached a stalemate recently in contract talks. Perhaps the meeting with Griffin is a sign the Fitzpatrick talks won’t be restarted anytime soon. That, or it could be possible the Jets are using Griffin — or any other free agent — as leverage in talks with Fitzpatrick.

Griffin would be an interesting option. He’s still young (just 26) and only a few years removed from being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Griffin never really found his groove in D.C., and injuries dragged him down. He didn’t play at all in 2015 after appearing in just nine games in 2014.
