It’s only April, but Aaron Hicks made the throw of the 2016 season Wednesday.
The New York Yankees outfielder completed a double play by throwing out Oakland Athletics third baseman Danny Valencia at home plate Wednesday night, but it was the speed at which he did so that was astounding.
Hicks’ throw traveled over 246 feet in roughly 2.5 seconds and was clocked at a top speed of 105.5 mph — the fastest throw ever recorded in MLB history.
It wasn’t enough to help the Yankees escape with the win, though, as New York lost 5-2 to Oakland, the Yankees’ sixth loss in their last seven games.
