Former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield potentially is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being charged with raping a developmentally disabled woman.

The alleged incident happened in April 2015, and it started as an interview for a babysitter through SitterCity.com. Authorities say Stubblefield offered to pay the 31-year-old woman $80 for her travel expenses and time for the interview, but he originally forgot to give her the compensation. The woman returned to Stubblefield’s home after the former 11-year NFL veteran texted her, and that’s when the alleged sexual assault occurred.

“This was a crime of violence against a vulnerable victim,” prosecutor Tim McInerny said in a press release, via CNN. “She was looking for a job and she was unconscionably assaulted.”

The victim reported the alleged sexual assault to the Morgan Hill Police right after the incident, and Stubblefield’s DNA was found by a crime lab.

Stubblefield’s attorney, Ken Rosenfeld, says the sexual encounter was consensual.

“Stubblefield is being unfairly targeted due to his celebrity and wealth by someone with full motivation to lie,” Rosenfeld said in a statement to CNN.

Stubblefield’s bond was set at $250,000, and he could face up to 16 years in prison if convicted.
