FOXBORO, Mass. — Jabaal Sheard reportedly suffered a sprained MCL in the New England Patriots’ first preseason game, but he was healthy enough to work on conditioning Tuesday.

Sheard and safety Patrick Chung returned to the practice field Tuesday. Quarterback Tom Brady also practiced after being excused Sunday and Monday.

After warmups, Sheard, fellow defensive end Rob Ninkovich (triceps), linebacker/defensive end Shea McClellin (undisclosed), guard Tre’ Jackson (PUP) and wide receivers Danny Amendola (PUP) and Malcolm Mitchell (elbow) left the main practice field to work on conditioning during positional drills.

Running back Dion Lewis (knee), guards Jonathan Cooper (foot) and Shaq Mason (hand), offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer (shoulder/hip), tight end Rob Gronkowski (leg) and defensive tackle Alan Branch (team-issued suspension) weren’t spotted at practice.

Cornerback Logan Ryan shed his red non-contact jersey this week, meaning he should be good to go Friday in the Patriots’ preseason matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
