New York Giants kicker Josh Brown was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list Friday, according to multiple reports.

This comes one day after the NFL reopened its investigation of Brown following the release of additional documents regarding his May 2015 domestic violence arrest. Brown admitted to physically, verbally and emotionally abusing his then-wife, Molly Brown, in a signed document.

Brown still can collect his base salary of approximately $1.15 million while on the commissioner’s exempt list. He also can appeal being placed on the list. But sources told ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen on Friday that Brown has kicked his last kick with the Giants, which goes against what New York coach Ben McAdoo said earlier in the day.

“We’re not going to turn our back on Josh,” McAdoo told reporters Friday. “He’s our teammate.”

Brown didn’t travel with the Giants to London, where they’ll play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The 37-year-old was notified that he was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list in a letter from Adolpho Birch, NFL’s Senior Vice President of Labor Policy and League Affairs.

Brown already served a one-game suspension to begin the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, but the additional documents uncovered cast uncertainty over his future. According to Mortensen, multiple sources expressed real doubt that Brown will ever kick again in the NFL.

The Giants already made a move to replace Brown for Sunday’s game, as the team agreed to bring in free-agent kicker Robbie Gould, who spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears from 2005 through 2015.
